Ain't the Conventional one . Downtown Art Heritage Georgetown

Yesterday I had a lunch date with Mei Xun. I parked my car at Georgetown and walk around to see is there any nice cafe that we can dine in for lunch.

I guess I'm lucky enough to bump into this new cafe that has just opened two days ago. Sick of those egg benedict, big breakfast, waffle and crepe cake in Penang therefore is so great to be able to find this which are selling more to fusion of Vietnamese and local cuisine. :-)

Love their Lemongrass Soda! Is so refreshing in this warm weather. It is a mixture of lemongrass, soda, mint and plum. It priced at RM8. 

Mei Xun's order, Ambarella Mix. Major love to these drinks instead of smoothies that are selling everywhere in Penang cafes. Priced at RM8 as well.

Nasi Ketuk with Chicken Rendang RM16.90

Love this so much! The Chicken Rendang is so rich and flavourful. Chicken is very much tender and rendang paste is full of spices and slightly towards otak-otak flavour. The portion is very big though.

Have been so long I never tell I will revisit mainly because of a savoury dish. Thumbs up! I sincerely hope they can keep up the standard till my next visit!

You can also try their Nasi Ketuk with Lemongrass Chicken. Something new and special.

Downtown Cottage Pie RM12.90

One of their recommendations. There are mash and parmesan cheese on top of the mince. I would said it is a delicious dish but we both still prefer Nasi Ketuk with Chicken Rendang. :-)

There are still plenty of tables upstairs. The cafe is still in the midst of renovation so I shall see what surprise me during my next visit. ;-)

All in all, this is a pretty decent cafe, not the conventional ones that you find in Penang. Very cozy ambience, attentive and tip top service, price is reasonable and they serve excellent food. I believed this place will soon wide spread by word-of-mouth.

It is located just beside Armenian Street. If you are a Georgetown heritage lover, you will surely recognised this cafe from the picture below. Apparently, it is very near to Khoo Kongsi and Yap Temple. 

I will surely visit again! Highly recommended.

Wheeler's Coffee at Love Lane for the bicycle lovers!

Stupidity hits me! I was supposed to start drafting the post half an hour ago but I forgot to insert my watermark so deleted all and do it over again! Argh...

Even though is time consuming but I wouldn't want to see some commercial websites using my blog pictures to publish in their website again and yet watermark their own logo! ><

Have you seen that recently there are lots of commercial websites like to publish "10 must visit cafes in Penang", "Top 10 cafes in Penang" and etc, they didn't visit to the cafe but they steal *yes I can say you are a thief because you didn't credit mention the blogger in your recommendation* blogger's picture who took the effort to visit the place, spend money to dine in the cafe, take pictures, filter, edit, upload and spend all their time blogging about the place BUT you, without doing anything, just post our pictures in your website without credit mentioning us in your post. 

I wouldn't mind to see you using our pictures but please credit mention us, for instance "Source from xxx blog". I believed I'm not the only victim, there are lots of bloggers who experienced the same thing but no ones mentioning it. Therefore, commercial website, please value intellectual property on the Internet! We didn't expect much, is just credit mention. Thanks and appreciate that!

While waiting for my dear playing basketball at Saint's, I drive around to see any new cafe opened nearby. I'm super outdated now. Lol..I used to be the one who have been frequently asked by my friends anywhere to recommend for hang out place but no one is asking me now. Lol! 

Saw this cafe when I drive through Love Lane. The shop name isn't obvious but is just a few shops away from Love & Latte Cafe. 

Wheeler's Coffee just opened a week ago. So lucky to bump into a new cafe to blog and share with you!

They serve Set Lunch as well but is only during weekday. 

By the way, the bicycles are available for rent! 

A very cozy cafe but unfortunately with limited seats. Perhaps they refuse to load the place with so much tables to provide customer better dining experience cz some of the cafes really consume as much space as possible to earn utmost return. :-(

One thing that I realized from cafes in Penang. 

So many of them are serving Mille Crepe. Seriously, are you guys sourcing them from the same supplier? Can we have something special like Pavlova or Earl Grey Creme Brûlée? Everyone is so bored of crepe cake already...:-( 

Any cafe who can serve yummy Pavlova in Penang, rest assured you, your cafe will definitely go viral. Lol..

This is just my humble opinion about the cake menu, nothing to do with Wheeler's Coffee cake. :-)

Sit back and relax at The Alley Penang

Went to The Alley on last Thursday. The first thing that I'm concerned with is the parking. I found a parking without yellow box so is illegal anyway. >< I was worried to see my car got clamped, saman issued or scratched by anonymous! Fortunately, is all ok by then. 

Back to The Alley Penang. It will be hard to discover when you drive through the street. No worries, I will give you a better picture of the location at the end of the post. 

The reason why is hard for you to locate the cafe because the shop originally named Kedai Gaharu Keat Seang. So try to figured out Kedai Gaharu Keat Seang 吉祥香庄 when you pass by. 

There you go for the shop signage - The Alley, 5 Stewart Lane. 

A very comfy place where I spent my afternoon there doing assignment and stuffs. Catching up with the staffs as well. They are really courteous and friendly person. People who have been there knows it well. :-)

Pestle Mortar Clothing has a pop-up store in The Alley. Check out their Facebook page to know better about this clothing label. 

Well execute menu board!

By the way, mentioning about their menu, they are famous for their churros, cronuts and  affogato! So make sure you don't miss them out when you drop by the cafe.

If you don't wish to have coffee at night, you may order their frappe as well namely Choc Mint Frappe, Pinky Guava Frappe, Choc Orea Frappe for the Oreo's lover and so on!

Homemade cheesecake! They will change their cake menu regularly to ensure customers get to try out different cake each and every week.

Fyi, their affogato served with Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream which I think is a plus point for their signature coffee.

More sofa seats at the back. Friends who come in a group prefer to chill out in this area.

Back then, I don't like to drink cold coffee because I thought when the ice cube melted, the texture of the coffee is not the same as before. Recently, I realized affogato settled all my worries at once. I can have cold coffee yet the smooth and rich texture of espresso stays. Feel so sorry to myself that I just figured it out. :p

Heard rave reviews about their affogato, indeed I think that it is so far the best in town. 

If you never try affogato before, I would highly recommend you to have this when you visit here.

Lemon Cheese RM10

I would say this is a decent one. Wouldn't say it is extremely delicious but if you top it with oreo crumble, the mixture of sweet and sourness would be so much enlighten on the taste.

Cappuccino RM9

It is slightly bitter for my liking. Anyway, feel free to request for brown sugar at the counter. They served it with our childhood tidbit 贡糖. *I have no idea what is it called in English, lol..couldn't get the translate in the web* 

A pleasant afternoon spent in The Alley.

Everyone knows Kuan Yim Temple along Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling right? Turn into Jalan Stewart from Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling. Then The Alley will be on your left. Don't go too far..it takes around 100m away from the junction. :-)

Quickly head to The Alley with your family and friends cz they open from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight! Cater those night owl needs. Lol..

New Menu in the House - Heaven Gate Penang

Has been a year since my last visit to Heaven Gate Penang, is my pleasure to sample a few dishes from the new menu. Heaven Gate offering semi dining environment with fine dining food experience. The classy and relaxing ambience and environment comes with signature food served deliver you a wonderful dining experience.

Once again, Heaven Gate signature menu never failed us. For those who has always wanted to celebrate your anniversary or birthday dinner, this would be the perfect place for you to indulge in a good food together.

Classic Onion Clear Soup RM8.90

The soup has a delicious flavour of caramelized onions and a hint of thyme. 

Cream of Pumpkin Soup RM10.90

Creamy and rich-tasting of pumpkin soup. It doesn't goes too sweet beyond my liking. It has remarkably strong and pure pumpkin flavour with cream. I would certainly recommend this if you don't wish to go for the ordinary mushroom soup.

Laksa Pesto RM24

This main course pull over the combination of laksa flavour and traditional Italian pesto. Never worry that the laksa flavour would be over powering in fact it enhances the classic taste of pesto.

 This main course is kind of similar like the crossover between local and the western delights. Certainly a highlight in the new menu.

King Prawn Grilled Chicken RM38

The grilled chicken has a crispy skin and the pairing with king prawn complemented well. The meat was grilled tender, exhibiting a slightly smoky aroma with the freshness of king prawn. The gravy was very tasty and goes well with the meat.

The essence of this dish is the flavour of prawn embedded in the chicken. They did a great work bringing out the nature favour of the ingredients.

Lamb Shank RM68

The lamb shank was scrumptious, smooth and melted in my mouth. The orange zest added texture and flavour to the dish. Lamb shank should be braised slowly until the meat was falling-off-the-bone tender and this is definitely one.

The meat was fall apart tender, rich in flavour and literally melts in your mouth! It served with a side of creamy mashed potato.

Crispy Baked Sea Bass served with Cream of Almond Sauce RM38

 This sea bass is a bomb! It is freshly prepared yet you can still taste freshness of the fish. Crispy skin is definitely a plus point for this dish when you have it together in a mouthful of fish. Love the Chef played with interesting colours in presentation and delighted the customers once it has been served!

The accompanied almond dressing with bites of cheery tomatoes make a lovely combined experience. This dish is definitely worth of price with large serving. 

Roast Duck Breast RM58

This is my favourite among all. Is my first time trying duck breast but this have makes me believed that why people said duck breast tastes so heavenly good.

The duck meat have a hint of pinkness with plenty of moisture still in the meat.

When you take a bite of the duck breast, you can equally taste the juicy of the duck skin and tenderness of the meat and it melts in your mouth with every bite of it. Although this is my first time trying duck breast but I bet there will be more to come. It ignites my love towards this dishes. Thumbs up.

You can either dip with brown sauce or take it plainly.

Cream Brulee RM10.90

The desserts are worth saving room for. 

The caramelized sugar top is thin, sweet and ready for cracking.

See how thin is the sugar top? The vanilla custard base is very smooth and creamy as well.

Orange Crepe served with Vanilla Ice Cream RM16.90

Marble Cheese Cake RM12.90

Before I ended this post, they will have live band performance such as saxophone, keyboard and so on in the lounge area from 7.30pm to 10.30pm in every Saturday. Thinking where to spend your weekend with your loved one, this is the right place!

Last but not least, thanks for having us here. The food tasting is marvellous. I'm giving my honest opinion with my peers review as well. Anyway, it may be vary for others.
